Joy A. Bartmon is a 1980 graduate of the University of Miami Law School, cum laude. She was licensed to practice law in November 1980 in Florida. From 1980 to 1989 she practiced primarily civil and criminal litigation, appeals, social security disability, corporate transactions, and pension law. In 1989, pursuing her commitment to serving the legal needs of children and families, she was hired as the first attorney for the Guardian Ad Litem Program of the 15th Judicial Circuit of Florida, a Court program protecting abused and neglected children involved in the legal system. In 1990, Joy Bartmon and her former husband, Richard G. Bartmon, started The Law Offices of Bartmon & Bartmon, engaging mainly in family law and appellate practice. The firm was dissolved in February, 2009. Joy then continued her practice of law as Joy A. Bartmon, Esq., P.A. Her practice concentration is in the areas of family law and mental health law. Included in her practice are prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, dissolution of marriage (divorce), child custody, parenting plans, domestic relations, grandparent custody, extended family custody, stepparent adoption, modification of custody, modification of support, enforcement and contempt proceedings, mental health law (including Marchman Act, Baker Act, incapacity proceedings, emergency guardianship), juvenile law (dependency, abuse and neglect), administrative law, and probate litigation. Joy often serves as a court appointed Guardian ad Litem or Attorney ad Litem in family cases. Joy is a Director and Officer of The Mental Health Association of Palm Beach County, Inc., the Chair of the Mental Health Law Committee of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association, the V.P. of the Collaborative Divorce Lawyers Association of Palm Beach County, Inc., a member of the Craig S. Barnard American Inns of Court, a former member and Chair of The Florida Bar Grievance Committee of the 15th Circuit, and the author of 'Motions to Disqualify Counsel' in the Florida Civil Trial Guide (Matthew Bender,1990). She is the recipient of the 2000 Florida Bar President's Pro Bono Service Award, the October 1999 15th Circuit Pro Bono Attorney of the Month Award, and the 1998 Karen Starr Marx Child Advocacy Award. Joy is working on a business to provide parenting services in Palm Beach County including off-site supervised visitation, parenting education, guardian ad litem services, and mediation with counseling for comprehensive parenting plans.
